Shamisen

Shamisen The shamisen or samisen (Japanese: 三味線, literally "three taste strings"), also called sangen (literally "three strings") is a three-stringed musical instrument played with a plectrum called a bachi. The pronunciation in Japanese is usually "shamisen" (in western Japan, and often in Edo-period sources "samisen") but sometimes "jamisen" when used as a suffix (e.g. Tsugaru-jamisen).

A shamisen is an ancient Japanese instrument. It has three strings and is somewhat similar to the Western guitar. However, with the shamisen (or "samisen," or "sangen"), there are certain Japanese characters associated with each pitch. There are also very specific performance responses, too. This is a really interesting instrument! Check it out!

The shamisen is a three-stringed instrument that is plucked with a large pick. The unique 'pop' sound of its strings is unique and beautiful. Centuries old, it is still popular today around the world.

Japanese brothers Ryoichiro and Kenichi play the traditional Japanese shamisen, a stringed instrument, in a new way. They play fast, like rock guitarists, and create a very exciting, unique sound.
