Synthesizer A synthesizer (or synthesiser) is generally any kind of electronic musical instrument, or electronic device capable of producing or manipulating audio tones, such as musical notes, through audio signal processing. The term originates from the Greek syntithetai synthesis . There are many types of synthesizers, including analog, digital, and samplers. Analog synthesizers work by manipulating electrical signals which are perceived as sound when processed by audio amplifiers.

Back in 1989 I bought this nifty little product called the AdLib Music Synthesizer card. The AdLib was based on a Yamaha FM synthesis chip and fit into a standard 8-bit ISA slot. I am proud of this composition. It starts with a string cliche, but if you really listen to this piece, there is a lot going on. With respect to harmony, I use tone clusters in a few different places, and there is just a whiff of polytonality. Also, I integrate synthesizers with the orchestra, and add in improvisation to taste.
